Ruby Lucille (Rice) Wolesky, age 93, died at Koda nursing facility on August 18, 2017.
Friends may greet the family from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the Brick Meger Funeral Home, Owatonna, and one hour prior to the funeral at church. Funeral mass is set for 11:00 AM Thursday, August 24, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Owatonna. There will be a Catholic Daughters of America rosary recited at 4:45 PM at the funeral home on Wednesday.
Ruby was born in Macomb, Illinois on March 3, 1924, the daughter of W.E. and Lola (Haley) Rice. At age three her family moved to Rushville, Illinois where she spent her early years, graduating from Rushville High School in May of 1942.
Upon graduating, she accepted a position with the Schuyler Telephone Company where she worked for several months before accepting a position as office clerk with the Cudahy Packing Company plant.
In June of 1943, she transferred to Owatonna to the Cudahy Dairy and Poultry Plant on north Cedar Street, where she served as an office manager.
On August 6, 1946, she was united in marriage with Charles R. (Chuck) Wolesky at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, from which union were born four children.
She resigned from the Cudahy Company in 1947 to raise a family. In 1960, she accepted a part time position with Clayton Wanous at Farmers Insurance. In 1966, she accepted a part time position at the Department of Transportation on Hoffman Drive. In 1970, she started working full time for the D.O.T., holding a variety of positions until she retired in June of 1986 after 20 years of service. She also held several post-retirement jobs.
Over the years, she had many hobbies including reading, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, sewing, singing, painting and travelling with the Senior Place Travelers. She loved flowers and working in her flower garden.
She was a member of the Semcac Retired Seniors Volunteer program and spent many pleasant hours volunteering for them, Senior Place and Scope as well as other groups.
She was a longtime member of the Catholic Daughters, Senior Place and the Elks Ladies. She was a Cub scout den mother, a past member of St. Mary's Home and School Association, Woman's Club, the Business and Professional Women, the Senior Place Golden Tones singing group, the Sacred Heart Senior choir and the Resurrection Choir.
She held offices in the Catholic Daughters, St. Mary's Home and School Association and St. Mary's Guild of Sacred Heart Church.
Ruby is survived by two sons, Donald of Minneapolis and Michael (Susan Lindoo) of Newport, Minnesota; two daughters, Donna (Louis) Jandro of Scottsdale, Arizona and Patricia of Eagan, Minnesota.; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Todd) Nash of Henderson, Nevada and Michael (Ileana Lorenzini) Jandro of Phoenix, Arizona; and two great-granddaughters, Delaney and Makenna Nash of Henderson, Nevada
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents; siblings Marjorie (Mason) Whitfield of Imlay City, Michigan, Russel (Twila), Robert (Mary) and Ronald (Ruby) Rice of Rushville, Illinois; an infant brother Everett Lee Rice, and grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. .
