She was born December 21st 1926 to John and Irene Pettinger in Cumberland Iowa. She attended a small one room country school with her 3 siblings Mary Kay, Evelyn, and Marvin. Norma left Cumberland to attend nursing school in Omaha where she attended Creighton University graduating top of her class in 1948. Norma married William Vincent Crowley in 1950, adopted two wonderful children, and moved all over the country because of Bill's work. Norma followed her calling as a Registered Nurse at several hospitals across the country including working ER rooms in LA and San Jose CA. In 1967 Bill took a job with Owatonna Tool Company and the family settled down on a 10 acre horse farm in Merton Township. Norma continued her nursing career at the Owatonna Hospital where she held many positions including floor nurse, head nurse of Intensive Care and finishing up as the Director of Nurses upon her retirement in 1983.
In 1974 Bill died suddenly at the age of 49. Through some strong encouragement from close friends Norma met, fell in love with and married Kenneth Teeters. Shortly after being united the happy couple bought a motorhome, sold their home and embarked on a 2 ½ year journey that took them to some amazing places across the country. They eventually settled and put down stakes in a retirement community outside of Tucson AZ where they lived for 15 years before moving back to Owatonna to spend more time with grandchildren and a growing number of great grandchildren. Norma and Ken spent 41 years together, traveled the world and had a wonderful life together.
Norma's greatest love was reserved for her friends, family and her faith. She was an active member of both St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Trinity Lutheran Church as well as the Catholic Daughters. She lived her faith in all she did. She was known as the Prayer Warrior, Norma would pray for anyone in need to help them through difficult situations. She touched countless people in her 91 years, the ultimate care giver she was a tireless volunteer for many organizations including Via De Cristo, Meals on Wheels, and a quilting group that donated quilts to needy children all over the world. Her greatest joy was reserved for her children and grandchildren. She cherished her role as matriarch more than anything, sharing here love unconditionally with all.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; 5 children, Maureen (David) Schlobohm, Kevin (Teresa) Crowley, Ken Jr, Tom (Beth) Teeters, all of Owatonna, Steve (Heidi) Teeters of Everett, WA; Grandchildren Matt Schlobohm, Katie Schlobohm, Will (Sam Fransen) Crowley, Nick Crowley, Megan Robinson, Lucas (Gina) Robinson, MaryBeth (John) Swanson, Missy Teeters, Chris (Lindsey) Teeters, Joshua Teeters, Micah (Charity) Teeters, and Melissa (Tejon) Tihonovich, her close personal friends Denise Woodrich & Gilly Jones, and 11 great grandchildren, aka "her little angels".
