Agatha "Gathy" Bowar

Agatha "Gathy" (Ring) Bowar, resident of Owatonna, MN, died at the Homestead Hospice House, surrounded by her family in prayer, on Dec. 8, 2017.

She was born on Oct.5, 1925, to parents William "Billy" Ring and Margaret "Maggie" (Nachreiner) Ring, on the family farm,on Loretta Ridge, in Franklin Township, Plain, WI. She graduated in 1943 from St. Luke's Catholic High School in Plain, WI.

After graduation, Gathy was employed at the C M St. P & P railroad depot in Sauk City, WI. During World War II she worked the Badger Army Ammunition Plant making gun powder and later was employed at Parker Pen. She met Lucian "Bozo" Bowar at the Riverside Ballroom and they were later married on Oct. 18, 1949. They made their home in Cross Plains, WI, until June 1, 1962, when the couple and their 7 young children moved to Owatonna, MN.

Gathy stayed very busy working at the Sacred Heart Clubhouse, cooking in the cafeteria at St. Mary's School. During retirement, and she volunteered for the Sacred Heart funeral committee and led the rosary and weekly Adoration. After the death of her husband in 1974, she went to work for Josten's in the Marketing Dept. until her retirement in 1990.

She was an avid reader and amazing gardener, growing the most beautiful flowers. Gathy was a member of the St. Theresa's Quilt Guild and she volunteered for the MCCL booth every year at the Steele County Free Fair. She loved cooking, baking cookies (there were always cookies at Grandma's house!), and spending precious time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom loved her dearly.

Gathy is survived by her children, Russ (Jan) Bowar, Peggy Yeager, Jeanne (Leo) Seykora, Mary (Bruce) Louks, Bob Bowar, and Anne (Gregg) Draeger; sister, Lory (Bill) Terbilcox, and brother, Felix (Millie) Ring; 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lucian, son, Randy, sisters, Philomena Ring, Martha Bindl, Bertha Rieder, and Alma Liegel, and sister-in-law, Coletta Aeschbach.

Visitation will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm. The funeral mass will be held at 12:30 pm, with fellowship and dinner at the Sacred Heart dining hall following the service.

Memorials are preferred to St. Mary's School in Owatonna, Feed My Starving Children, and masses at your home parishes
