Tribute & Message From The Family

Helen B. Chesney, age 96, of Owatonna, passed away peacefully on February 3rd, 2018, at Koda Living Community.
Funeral mass is set for 11:00 AM Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Owatonna. Friends may greet the family 1.5 hours prior to the funeral mass at church starting at 9:30 AM. There will be a Catholic Daughters of America rosary recited in church on Thursday at 10:30 AM.
Helen was born March 7, 1921, to parents Charles and Minnie (Pechacek) Pribyl in Owatonna, MN. She graduated from Owatonna High School. She met James Chesney shortly after WWII and the two were married June 3, 1948 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She and her husband lovingly raised five children. Family was a priority in their lives and they enjoyed following each child in their various activities as they grew up.

Helen was active in her church and her local community as regent of Catholic Daughters, president and secretary of St. Mary's Guild, St. Mary's Home and School Association, board member of Sacred Heart Women's Council, and secretary and treasurer of the Women's Club of Owatonna. She enjoyed many years as book keeper for Sisser's Clothing Store.
Her hobbies included, reading, playing cards, painting and dancing.
She lived a very full 96 years with grace, faith, fun, and love. Helen was a smart, independent woman who remained engaged in the world around her until the very end.

Helen was preceded in death by, her parents; husband, James; one son, Donald; one brother and two sisters.

She is survived by, children, David (Denette) Chesney, Rochester, William "Bill" (Mary) Chesney, Plymouth, MN, Mary Jean (Ken) Schaefer, St. Paul, Kevin Chesney, St. Peter; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bernard "Bud" Pribyl, Owatonna. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Koda Living Community and Heartland Hospice for all of their warm and loving care. Memorials are preferred to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the Minnesota Braille & Talking Book Library, in Faribault.

My mother was Larene Pribyl Kerr. I remember Mom talking about Helen.
